Many a times when I visited the monuments in DC, I never realized this, but I believe that many Americans who profess to be Christians are practicing idolatry when we put our flag before God and Jesus. What is the Lincoln Memorial but a temple with an idol in the center, much like the Greeks and the Romans made for themselves? We have elevated our "Founding Fathers" and presidents above who they really are: human beings who are ultimately flawed and driven by sin like the rest of us. How is this different than worshipping of idols? We as Christians should use the Scriptures as the ultimate authority for right and wrong, and when our country is doing something wrong, we should have the courage to speak out.

My grandmother started walking five miles a day when she was sixty. She's ninety-five now, and we don't know where the hell she is.

It is easy to focus on the death of Christ and forget that he spent his time on earth showing people how to live. Christianity is summed up very well in the Sermon on the Mount, yet it is the most rejected part of Jesus' ministry.

I would suggest "Will the Real Heretics Please Stand Up" by David Bercot for a refreshing look at how early Christians felt about scriptures. I am not affiliated with him, but I have a lot of respect for his writtings.

Love God with all your heart
Love your neighbor as yourself

I just don't remember anything about love your country in the New Testament.
