Stevens and Ethics Reform

Sadly, another senator with his beak in the water bucket.  Cleverly parsed claims, denials, and non-claims, go figure.  So, the ethics reform passed in the House by a huge margin, but Stevens is threatening to put a hold on it in the Senate....suppose he'll recant for another "bridge to nowhere"?

Causes of Atheism

While I have some skepticism about old-style apologetics rooted in the Enlightenment's commitment to rationalism, I am very sympathetic to what this guy has to say about root causes of atheism.  The church too easily bypasses important questions about basic faith issues.  Consequently, our youth grow up thinking we don't have answers, which makes them "sitting ducks" for folks with more sophisticated arguments for atheism.  We are going to have to re-think a lot of this.

Rumsfeld/Tillman

The former doesn't want to talk about the latter......

Another Turn

There is no shame in admitting that you were wrong.  In fact, some take it as a sign of character, so I am delighted to see this from the Dallas Morning News:

How wrong we were. The administration has stumbled and improvised through one bad war plan after another, exposing our troops to unacceptable danger. ....This editorial board, having reservedly supported the war in 2003, feels a moral responsibility to help fix this mess, not walk away from it.

More here.

The shame is for those who continue to put trust in this incompetent administration.

Immorality

It was my view that the failure to sign the international treaty to ban land mines was the single biggest moral failure of the Clinton administration.  With Bush, you have a lot to choose from, but this one might well end up getting my vote.  The rationale for Bush's position is non-existent, his position harms children, and it's not a cost-wise position.  Not to mention that it is hardly worthy of a person who says that Jesus is his favorite philosopher.  Obviously, those are not the philosophical grounds upon which Bush claims to be standing.

Gonzales

Sign me up for this one as well.  How much longer can we tolerate the extent to which this guy has made a laughingstock out of the DOJ?

Who's Rigging the Poll??

Okay, I grant this is really cute, but does any body think this bears any resemblance to reality??

Stevens

No, not Darrin:>)  Looks like Ted from Alaska has his head in the vice at the moment.  FBI raids of congressional homes and offices seems to be all the rage of late.  Sadly, whatever honest pols there are, they all get painted badly by guys like this.  Makes you wonder why they aren't more aggressive on the stinkers.

Arms Dealing

Can somebody tell me why this is a good idea?

Earth to Glenn

The latest from the "who thinks this stuff up" category.
