This article appeared in the NYT and it speaks of an evangelical pastor in Mn who dared suggest one ought not wrap Christian faith too tightly in the flag, or a particular political party. Here is one excerpt from the second half:
Mr. Boyd lambasted the “hypocrisy and pettiness” of Christians who focus on “sexual issues” like homosexuality, abortion or Janet Jackson's breast-revealing performance at the Super Bowl halftime show. He said Christians these days were constantly outraged about sex and perceived violations of their rights to display their faith in public.
“Those
are the two buttons to push if you want to get Christians to act,” he said. “And those are the two buttons Jesus never pushed.”
___________
As usual, I do not suggest Boyd is right on every issue, but he raises some very valid points.
I read and enjoyed his book, "Letters From a Skeptic" that was a compilation of about 25 letters he exchanged with his (at the time unbelieving) dad over a 3 year period. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1564762440/sr=8-3/qid=1154295615/ref=pd_bbs_3/002-9093913-4802424?ie=UTF8

He really is a great pastor...had a friend who attended his church...and read the book.
He does have some great views.
Sincerely
Sara
